The Mental Health Specialist functions as an integral part of the Assertive Community Treatment Team to provide intensive, recovery-based treatment for the highest risk consumers of mental health resources. The ACT Team Mental Health Specialist provides one-on-one and group mental health counseling and substance use counseling to client members of the ACT Team. This position also requires the clinician to be cross-trained to step into any other team member’s functional role if needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality, recovery-oriented, evidence-based mental health and substance use counseling services to ACT Team client members in both individual and group settings;
  • Work collaboratively as part of the ACT Team in order to provide comprehensive care that meets the needs of client team members;
  • Develop a comprehensive, strengths-based, individualized treatment plan in collaboration with staff team members, client team members, and client-identified supports;
  • Participate in the formal training and development process with administrative staff and consultants as well as ongoing professional development and continuing education;
  • Understand and be capable of performing the functional duties of other staff ACT Team members and be willing to serve as a substitute for the provision of other specialist services when the designated staff team member is unable to do so;
  • Attend daily team meetings, individual supervision, and group supervision as scheduled;
  • Initiate and maintain relationships with community resources, outside human service agencies, and other stakeholders as needed;
  • Commit to ensuring fidelity to the ACT model and ongoing quality improvement efforts;
  • Complete all required documentation accurately and on time;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 2 years of direct clinical experience;
  • Knowledge, understanding, and experience using trauma-informed and evidence-based interventions and practices for mental health and substance use treatment;
  • Comfortable working with clients diagnosed with severe and persistent mental health disorders in a variety of office, home, and community-based settings;
  • Ability to function as an integral part of the collective treatment team;
  • Knowledge of local, state and federal regulations, laws and standards with regard to behavioral health treatment services;
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills and ability to communicate effectively with clients, family members, colleagues, and professional contacts;
  • Ability to plan and prioritize work and meet the Agency’s performance, quality assurance and productivity standards;
  • Commitment to maintain the fidelity and integrity of ACT throughout all phases of development, implementation, and practice.

Required Education & Experience

  • Master’s Degree in Mental Health Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, Nursing, or related human services field with a minimum of 2 years clinical experience
  • CAC certification strongly preferred
  • Clinical License preferred

Travel

  • Local travel within the service delivery area is required as many ACT services are provided in community-based settings;
  • Travel to trainings as required.
