The Mental Health Specialist functions as an integral part of the Assertive Community Treatment Team to provide intensive, recovery-based treatment for the highest risk consumers of mental health resources. The ACT Team Mental Health Specialist provides one-on-one and group mental health counseling and substance use counseling to client members of the ACT Team. This position also requires the clinician to be cross-trained to step into any other team member’s functional role if needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality, recovery-oriented, evidence-based mental health and substance use counseling services to ACT Team client members in both individual and group settings;
- Work collaboratively as part of the ACT Team in order to provide comprehensive care that meets the needs of client team members;
- Develop a comprehensive, strengths-based, individualized treatment plan in collaboration with staff team members, client team members, and client-identified supports;
- Participate in the formal training and development process with administrative staff and consultants as well as ongoing professional development and continuing education;
- Understand and be capable of performing the functional duties of other staff ACT Team members and be willing to serve as a substitute for the provision of other specialist services when the designated staff team member is unable to do so;
- Attend daily team meetings, individual supervision, and group supervision as scheduled;
- Initiate and maintain relationships with community resources, outside human service agencies, and other stakeholders as needed;
- Commit to ensuring fidelity to the ACT model and ongoing quality improvement efforts;
- Complete all required documentation accurately and on time;
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 2 years of direct clinical experience;
- Knowledge, understanding, and experience using trauma-informed and evidence-based interventions and practices for mental health and substance use treatment;
- Comfortable working with clients diagnosed with severe and persistent mental health disorders in a variety of office, home, and community-based settings;
- Ability to function as an integral part of the collective treatment team;
- Knowledge of local, state and federal regulations, laws and standards with regard to behavioral health treatment services;
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills and ability to communicate effectively with clients, family members, colleagues, and professional contacts;
- Ability to plan and prioritize work and meet the Agency’s performance, quality assurance and productivity standards;
- Commitment to maintain the fidelity and integrity of ACT throughout all phases of development, implementation, and practice.
Required Education & Experience
- Master’s Degree in Mental Health Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, Nursing, or related human services field with a minimum of 2 years clinical experience
- CAC certification strongly preferred
- Clinical License preferred
Travel
- Local travel within the service delivery area is required as many ACT services are provided in community-based settings;
- Travel to trainings as required.
